It,'s really awfully I agree with Doug I was in the same facility with u they spit on u and try to get u off camera some staff I'm glad I'm out of palmetto to keep it 100 use toni graves as an therapist good lady really helpful
do not bring your child here believe me I was forced to live there for 9 months from may 20 2014 until i was released on December 19 2014. this place is HELL. I was there and believe me it is awful a kid named Barry Woods defecated all over my bed Sam while i was sleeping in it it was horrible kicked my teeth and chipped them and the only sensible people there are the kids that obviously didn't need to be there. This place is the absolute worst.
The structure was ok but there was a lot of physical abuse there I was the one that got the three staff fired and helped the place be a little safer the facility was filthy at times and a lot of bug infestation there the food was not very flavorful and the same thing every week they had for units savanna and santee and motrie and edisto 2 units for girls and 2 units for boys there restraints were overly offended used for minor behaviors like yelling at staff and and cursing the offenses like physical aggression or self harm and property Destruction that were the things u were placed in the hold for some staff when they placed these patients in the (CPI)
Known is Crisis Physical Intervention most UHS facilities engage in this method of restraint to regain control of the aggressive patient check it out on YouTube to better understand this type of hold look up CPI restraint training video if your looking to place your child and especially has a diagnose of autism spectrum disorder I don't recommend this facility for adolescents with autism they have a link on their website called autism program but when I was there they didn't treat autistic patients there very well the nonverbal ones didn't get any tools to assist them to communicate with staff just lets them be to there selves and rock all day sort of speak some staff say there trained in developmental disorders when themselves abuse them and have no clue about autism behaviors I was admitted there this last January of this year 2016 was discharged October of this year 2016 I was there for 9 months for aggression I have autism if u want me to explain more about my experience there at palmetto Pee Dee behavioral health go to me YouTube channel (avi chaise) thanks for reading this big old long paragraph on this review for this residential facility peace out
No training, no real management and it is so unorganized. Awful place to even consider working.
I was there from September 24th to December 12th of 2014. It was such a nightmare to where I had been diagnosed with PTSD because of it (at the time). Here's a rundown: The entire second floor smells like feces, urine, and semen; all the windows are blurred so that "the patients wouldn't attract attention"; all the doors would either swing loosely or tightly; the hallway lights are on 24/7 (surveillance cameras, plus trouble sleeping); therapists wouldn't get to you for up to a month even though they promise they would have weekly sessions; all of the patients are either innocents, criminals, or mentally ill and violent; I had seen a patient that had been there since 2009; the staff are almost all African-American (in a ghetto way); they basically let the "special patients" run around, yell their heads off, and "play" with themselves; I had seen a few patients eat earthworms in the courtyard cause they're so hungry; I had seen patients have their bones broken just from staff severely restraining them; the patients would get sworn at and physically abused; I had seen patients steal each other's clothes (even mine); when the males get haircuts at the end of each month, they would have it shaved all off (I never had since I denied); I had seen an entire room covered with feces before it was closed off; I had seen patients run around naked; I had a $90 limited edition novel destroyed when a staff member allowed a mental patient into my room while I was away and, to this day, I never knew who had done it; for school, they would either let the patients run wild like it's normal or do class work and find out none of those assignments can go towards your regular school records; I had seen male patients get "romantic" with each other (kissing, groping, etc.); I had seen patients as ugly as zombies; I had nearly been touched by a patient while I was showering and had to fight them off while I was still “bare”; the showers always malfunction; there's mold on the ceilings; the doors chipped a lot of paint; the food was bland, disgusting, and it’s the same thing every week; I have seen enough holes in walls that though plastered I’m surprised it hadn’t collapsed the building yet; I had my right eye messed up because of a mental patient punching me there; I had met a patient that had asked if he could “suck” me; between the first day and eighth day as a patient, you aren't allowed to have a bed or change clothes due to “security measures”; and finally, for the first 30 days of being a patient, though you can have visits via relatives within the building, you are not allowed to leave outside the building. May I wish those that were there hope for recovery, and the facility and staff pure deep Hell for their actions. Thank you.
