Couldn't be worse! The guy at front desk was extremely rude. The place was going through a maintenance, asked for a discount for the inconvenience caused, he said this ain't a pawn shop! How embarrassing, was 2 am, had no option then to stay. The breakfast was poor as well. The housekeeping lady kept banging our door even though we had a do not disturb posted on our door. Eventually forced us to checkout.
December 2016: Currently remodeling exterior & interior. They plan to enlarge the breakfast area too and reconfigure the lobby.
Room: As we hoped, clean and attractive bedding; new modern light and bath fixtures; new if cheap built-in furniture. But AC smells of mildew if not actively cooling; strong cigarette/ashtray smell started about 10 pm (outside? hall?) and persisted until morning; torn screen on window; found ten ants in various parts of the room all evening.
Feels like a terrible dive that's been trying to invest and step up their game, but is only partially succeeding.
Would definitely not recommend to a traveling family whatsoever !
Mentioned the room issues to the desk clerk on checkout, got only weary nods.
Lobby and breakfast area still need to be remodeled.
UPDATE: Dec 2017 interior rooms finished. Nice rooms. Rooms with two beds have a refrigerator and microwave.
Lobby: Front door does not have a closer and swings freely. Grimy doors, floor, elevator walls. Our floor was only partially carpeted (renovation we assume), with bare concrete slab outside the elevators; new carpets in the hall and room have no thresholds and are starting to unravel.
My husband is working in the area this week so we were just going to find a hotel to stay at upon arriving. We got here about 5:30 am and we were able to Check in early for about $20. It has recently been renovated and is in GREAT condition. It is very CLEAN! Our daughter is able to crawl and not get dirty which is a great plus for us. All the front desk attendants are amazing!! Very friendly and helpful. Close to everything. Will definitely be staying here again if we have to come back this way. Would recommend to anyone!
I chose a Microtel based on a surprisingly good experience with the one in Blacksburg VA, but I maybe should have expected that one right off I-95 would much be more beaten up. That said their money spent rehabbing will go to waste unless it's completed, and daily operations are improved. I have no reason to visit this one again.
The location is great because is close to major highways, the rooms are clean, but I didn't like the breakfast, the coffee was horrible and they didn't have any milk for the cereal.
